Overview and support for pregnancy and childbirth

The Hamburg-Harburg Midwifery Center is a central point of contact for expectant parents and families in the Hamburg-Harburg district.
Here you can get help from midwives: we offer professional guidance, advice, and support during pregnancy, after birth, and in the early days with your child.

All midwifery services offered are statutory services which are usually covered by health insurance.

What is the Hamburg-Harburg Midwifery Center?

The Hamburg-Harburg Midwifery Center is a place for support, advice, and courses on pregnancy, birth, the postpartum period, and the early days with your child.

Freelance midwives work together as a team at the center.

Our midwives are professionally competent. They provide personal and continuous support to families.

The aim is to give as many families as possible reliable access to midwifery services close to home.

Why a Midwifery Center in Harburg?

Expectant mothers and young families in Hamburg-Harburg often have difficulty finding a midwife to care for them during pregnancy and after childbirth.

Compared to other districts in Hamburg, Harburg lags significantly behind in terms of postpartum and postnatal care. In 2018, the care coverage rate was around 8%.

The Hamburg-Harburg Midwifery Center addresses this issue and strengthens outpatient midwifery care in the district.

Our services at a glance

Before the birth

At the Midwifery Center, we accompany you throughout your pregnancy.

This includes, among other things:

Consultation and discussions
Prenatal care in accordance with maternity guidelines
Support with physical, emotional, and organizational issues
Birth preparation classes

Prenatal care can be provided by a midwife or in conjunction with your gynecologist.

Prenatal care and consultations can take place at the midwifery center.

After birth

After the birth, we support you during the postpartum period and beyond.

Our services include:

Postpartum care
Advice on breastfeeding or bottle feeding
Support with questions about your child's development and care
Postnatal exercise classes

In the first few weeks, care is also provided in the form of home visits, subject to availability.

Later on, appointments take place at the midwifery center together with your child.

Midwives can help with questions about breastfeeding and nutrition. Support is available until the end of your child's first year or until you stop breastfeeding.
